How to heal anxiety

5 steps to healing anxiety
When the mind is an unsafe place we need to shine the light of awareness, to look within and see what’s actually going on.

If we are spending most of our lives in our heads we need to look at what kind of environment we have allowed our head space to become, is it a heaven or hell?

Nobody else lives in our head unless we allow it, this is the one place we are fully in charge and have full sovereignty. We have the power to rule our own mind and not be ruled by it.  Yet we don't and we wonder why we have anxiety and how to heal our anxiety. What are we even anxious about?

No greater example of this is that of Nelson Mandela who spent most of his life in jail and in solitary. Yet his keen awareness of his own mind enabled him to kept his mind free and lived a meaning full life even in such stressful situation.

5 step guide to healing anxiety and the nervous system

Five steps to heal an anxious mind

Step one: How to heal anxiety through awareness

Do nothing it’s time to observe and gain awareness of our own thoughts. We can’t solve a problem until we know what the problem actually is.

I recommend journaling, it is a proven way to gain awareness of our thoughts.

Step two: How to heal anxiety in the mind

Cultivate witness consciousness through mindfulness practice and focused meditation. This helps create space in our psyche and we become the one witnessing the thoughts, rather than the thought itself.

Step three: How to heal anxiety through presence

When we notice we are lost in our thoughts, we use anchoring practices like breath, and taking a self-balancing pause, to come back to presence so we can regain focus and clarity, developing your own practice and commitment to presence is key here.

Step four: How to heal anxiety in the body

We carry so much tension and energetic stress in our bodies, in some cases this can be so extreme that it manifests as disease or other physical ailments. When the body is in a constant state of stress, it creates a perpetuating loop of:

The body sending the signal, ‘I am not OK. I need something?’ to which the mind responds by generating thoughts of, ‘we need something, NOW, we must act’, causing more stress in the body. On and on it goes, we are locked in what’s known as fight, flight or freeze.

And this my friends is a dysregulated nervous system and the only way to get fully out of this cycle is too regulate that bad boy!

We need to take on body practices to support our nervous system into regulation. Things like; Yoga, Somatic movement, dance, martial arts, massage and cold water therapy to name but a few.

Step five: How to heal anxiety from the root

If being anxious is more your personality type then it’s time to get to the core of what makes you, you. See how this anxious personality was programmed into you in the first place, how you have been perpetuating patterns and drama cycles beacuse of it, and ultimately how to dissolve it so you can become a different person, one who is not anxious.

It’s time to question your beliefs and write a new story for yourself.
